The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has won three of the four major posts in the 2026 Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections, while independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen secured the vice-president post. The results were declared on Saturday after counting of votes polled on September 18.

Yash Dabas of ABVP won the presidential election, while Riya Chhabri secured the secretary post and Lakshyaraj Singh won the joint secretary position. Deepanshu Shokeen, who contested as an independent after being associated with NSUI, emerged victorious in the vice-presidential contest.

The DUSU election recorded a 40.46% voter turnout, with more than 1.5 lakh students eligible to vote. Counting began on Saturday morning amid heightened security arrangements at Delhi University.

The election was held against the backdrop of concerns surrounding student housing and campus infrastructure, including the recent hostel collapse in Delhi’s Satya Niketan, which claimed five lives. The campaign also saw significant use of social media and debates around student welfare and university administration.

The 2026 DUSU results are also notable because they come amid wider political activity involving student mobilisation and the ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ initiative. The fifth edition of the programme associated with Rahul Gandhi is being held in Madhya Pradesh on the same day.

Meanwhile, the NSUI presidential candidate had alleged irregularities by the Delhi University administration, claiming that the election process was influenced in favour of ABVP. Such allegations are claims by the candidate and have not been established as fact.

The results give ABVP control of three central DUSU positions, while the vice-president post has gone to an independent candidate, making the 2026 election a closely watched development in Delhi University student politics.
