Hero MotoCorp shares fell over 6% after the two-wheeler manufacturer’s August 2026 sales missed Street estimates, while its core motorcycle segment reported a year-on-year decline.

The company recorded total sales of 5,68,398 units during August, below the CNBC-TV18 poll estimate of 5.90 lakh units. Although total volumes increased 2.6% from 5,53,727 units in the corresponding month last year, the sales miss triggered a negative reaction in the stock.

Domestic sales rise, but motorcycles remain weak

Hero MotoCorp’s domestic sales increased 4.5% year on year to 5,42,305 units during August.

However, motorcycle dispatches declined 1.5% to 4,93,851 units. Motorcycles remain the central part of Hero MotoCorp’s business, making the decline a key concern for investors.

Scooter sales delivered a significantly stronger performance, jumping 42.8% year on year to 74,547 units. The growth in scooters helped partially offset the weakness in motorcycle volumes.

Hero MotoCorp exports decline 24.5%

The company’s international business remained under pressure during the month. Exports dropped 24.5% year on year to 26,093 units, compared with 34,588 units in August last year.

The sharp export decline, coupled with lower motorcycle dispatches and total sales falling short of market expectations, weighed on investor sentiment despite overall volume growth.

Hero MotoCorp also reported 25,558 VIDA electric vehicle dispatches during August.
