Rekha Gupta Calls for United Fight Against Drug Abuse as Punjab Yatra Enters Second Phase

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday launched the second phase of the ‘Drug-Free Punjab Yatra’ from the sacred soil of Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, calling for a united public effort to tackle drug abuse in Punjab.

In a social media post, Gupta said those who pursued political interests while allowing the drug problem to grow had damaged the future of an entire generation. She alleged that the drug network was sustained by corruption, political patronage and the silence of those in power.

Gupta said the BJP has pledged to target the roots of the alleged drug nexus by joining hands with the people of Punjab. She called for mass mobilisation against drug peddlers and those accused of protecting the network.

The Delhi Chief Minister also said the campaign would carry the message of a drug-free Punjab to families across the state, with public participation at the centre of the initiative.

The launch at Fatehgarh Sahib comes as political parties in Punjab step up their focus on the issue of drug abuse. The BJP has been highlighting the drug problem as a major issue and is seeking greater public participation in its campaign against substance abuse.

The ‘Drug-Free Punjab Yatra’ is expected to cover different parts of the state, with BJP leaders and workers engaging with local communities as part of the campaign.

The issue of drug abuse remains a major political and social concern in Punjab, with parties frequently differing over responsibility for the problem and the measures required to address it.
