BSF Rescues 10 Bangladeshi Nationals from Drowning in River Ganga

In a swift and courageous rescue operation, alert troops of the 71 Battalion BSF, Malda Sector, rescued 10 Bangladeshi nationals, including three children, three women and four men, after their boat capsized in the strong currents of the River Ganga.

30-Day-Old Infant Among Those Rescued

Among the rescued persons was a 30-day-old infant who was in critical condition at the time of the rescue. BSF personnel immediately provided first aid to the infant and rushed the child to the nearest government hospital. The infant is now reported to be stable and in normal condition.

BSF Troops Launched Immediate Rescue Operation

The incident occurred on the evening of September 12, 2026, when BSF personnel deployed near Border Out Post Khandua noticed several people struggling in the strong river current and facing the risk of drowning.

Recognising the seriousness of the situation, the BSF troops immediately launched a rescue operation and rushed towards the spot in a speed boat. After sustained and determined efforts, the personnel successfully rescued all 10 persons from the river and brought them safely to shore.

Boat Capsized While Crossing Padma-Ganga River

During interaction with the BSF personnel, the rescued individuals stated that they were residents of Joharpur village in Bangladesh and were travelling from Chapai Nawabganj to Joharpur.

According to their account, their boat suddenly capsized while crossing the Padma (Ganga) River, throwing all the occupants into the water. Due to the strong river current, they were swept towards the Indian side.

Rescued Nationals Handed Over to BGB

After completing all necessary formalities, the BSF safely handed over all 10 Bangladeshi nationals to the troops of the 53 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).

The timely intervention and coordinated rescue efforts by the BSF personnel helped prevent a potentially serious tragedy in the strong currents of the River Ganga.
