The Centre has sanctioned ₹313.30 crore for the welfare of tea workers and their families in North Bengal under the Pradhan Mantri Cha Shramik Protsahan Yojana. The allocation will cover tea estates across the Darjeeling hills, Terai and Dooars regions.
According to the report, the entire sanctioned amount will be utilised for the welfare of tea workers and their families. The proposal had earlier been submitted to the Centre and has now received approval.
The development comes amid broader financial support for the tea sector, with the report also referring to an earlier ₹1,000 crore allocation for the tea population of Bengal and Assam.
