After a Long Wait, Renovation of Tarapith Temple Is Finally Set to Begin

The long-awaited renovation work at the historic Tarapith Temple in Birbhum is finally set to begin following the conclusion of the Kaushiki Amavasya festivities. As part of the renovation process, Maa Tara’s idol will be temporarily shifted from the sanctum sanctorum to the Shiva Temple located within the same temple complex.

Maa Tara’s Idol to Be Shifted Temporarily

According to the temple committee, the idol will be shifted after 10 pm on September 14. The idol is expected to remain at the Shiva Temple for approximately one month while the renovation work is carried out at the main temple.

During this period, devotees will continue to have access to regular worship. Puja, aarti, bhog and darshan of Maa Tara will continue as usual from the Shiva Temple, ensuring that devotees are not deprived of worship during the renovation period.

Renovation to Improve Darshan for Devotees

The renovation work is also aimed at making darshan more convenient and accessible for devotees. As part of the planned improvements, the main entrance door of the temple will be raised by approximately one foot.

In addition, Maa Tara’s main altar will be raised by around eight inches. This modification is expected to provide devotees standing in the Natmandir with a clearer view of the deity during darshan.

Renovation Work to Be Carried Out on Expert Recommendations

Necessary renovation work will be undertaken both inside and outside the temple complex. The temple committee said that the work will be carried out in accordance with the technical guidance and recommendations of experts.

The renovation schedule has been planned after the completion of Kaushiki Amavasya festivities. The timing was deliberately chosen to avoid disrupting the large influx of pilgrims who visit Tarapith during the festival.

Devotees to Continue Worship During Renovation

With worship arrangements continuing at the Shiva Temple, devotees will be able to offer prayers and have darshan of Maa Tara even while renovation work is underway at the main temple. The temple committee has planned the arrangements keeping the convenience and religious sentiments of devotees in mind.
